This is the STANDARD line, with a 60° tip. This listing is for the blades only; the Titanium Blade Handle is sold separately.

Materials

The blades are cut from monocrystalline sapphire, crystalline aluminium oxide and one of the hardest materials available: sapphire is rated 9 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, one level below diamond. Because of that hardness the cutting edge holds its sharpness over a long series of incisions. It is a ceramic rather than a metal, so it does not corrode, it is not magnetic, and it carries no risk of a metal ion reaction. It is also brittle, so it tolerates autoclaving and long use but not being dropped or levered sideways.

Based on the feedback we get from our customers, a sapphire blade will cut 3,000 to 4,500 slits; after that it still cuts, but needs a little more force. The manufacturer states a life of up to 15,000 or more incisions. We have not measured either figure ourselves, and we make no claim about healing, scarring or graft survival: what the published literature supports is the geometry of the incision, not the material of the blade. The knife is packaged in a sterilization container with the blade in the retracted position. The knife is to be cleaned and sterilized prior to use in accordance with the surgical instrument handling instructions provided to each customer. Immediately prior to use, trained personnel should expose the blade from the handle by releasing the spring-loading mechanism on the proximal end of the handle. The blade should be retracted immediately after use.

Sterilization Instructions

For sterilization, first place the hair transplant blades in an enzyme solution to dissolve any blood for at least 15 minutes. Then place them in an ultrasonic device for 10 minutes. After that, leave them to dry and pack them in autoclave paper.
