Liposomal ATPv

Liposomal ATPv is a concentrated additive for graft holding solutions, made by Energy Delivery Solutions. It is not a graft holding solution in itself: it is diluted into the holding solution you already use.

ATPv consists of lipid vesicles (liposomes) that encapsulate adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and is intended to deliver ATP to cells by membrane fusion. The name ATPv stands for "ATP in vesicles".

ATPv isw for physician use only, as a sterile-filtered, sterile-packaged product for single use.

How to use

  • Before mixing, turn the bottle upside down gently a few times.
  • On the morning of surgery, add ATPv to your graft holding solution at a 1:10 dilution (10%).
  • At that ratio, 25 mL of ATPv with 225 mL of holding solution gives 250 mL of working solution; 50 mL of ATPv with 450 mL gives 500 mL.
  • Refresh the working solution hourly during the procedure, and earlier if it becomes bloody.
  • Each bottle is for a single use: once opened, use it that day and discard what remains.

Compatible graft holding solutions

Saline, HypoThermosol, Plasma-Lyte A, Ringer's lactate and Williams' Medium E, among others.

Which bottle for which procedure?

We recommend one bottle per patient per case.

Please allow a delivery lead time of 2 weeks when ordering.

Storage and shelf life

  • Keep refrigerated until the day it is used.
  • Shelf life: 120 days from the date of manufacture. Plan orders against your caseload within that period.
  • We ship ATPv chilled, packed with ice. According to the manufacturer's internal testing, ATPv still met its Certificate of Analysis parameters after 27.8 days at 30.5°C.

What the research shows

We list the published work on ATPv in hair restoration, with what each study measured, so you can judge it yourself.

  • Castro et al., Dermatologic Surgery, 2019. A laboratory study of stored hair follicles. Under chilled conditions, saline supplemented with ATPv best preserved the expression of two genes associated with hair growth (HEY1 and LEF1). The study measured gene expression, not graft survival or regrowth.
  • Cooley, Hair Transplant Forum International, 2014. Grafts from a single patient were stored for five days at 4°C in three solutions. Graft survival per area, based on hair counts at 18 months, was 72% with HypoThermosol plus liposomal ATP, 44% with HypoThermosol alone and 0% with Plasma-Lyte A. The author notes that this concerned one patient. The ATP concentration used was about 1%, lower than the current 1:10 recommendation.
